From April 15 to 30, 2023, BIÉDE presented an exhibition with photographer and filmmaker Quentin Shih at node hotel in Kyoto. As part of KG＋, the satellite programme of KYOTOGRAPHIE, photographs made for BIÉDE and Shih’s personal work were shown in the hotel lounge.

BIÉDE IN MOTION
The opening on April 15 included the fashion performance “BIÉDE IN MOTION.” Nina Utashiro performed to the recorded voice of Yusuke Narita and music by Yongsi and Lyo Taniguchi; Chikashi Suzuki documented the work in photographs and film. A flute performance by Hana Yamamoto preceded it.
The point of departure was Chapter 32 of The Tale of Genji, “Umegae.” Scent, musical instruments, the body and the bag were reconsidered through movement and sound.

Quentin Shih and BIÉDE
Quentin Shih has photographed a continuing series of visual stories for BIÉDE. This exhibition brought those images together with his personal work, which was also offered for sale. On April 16, Shih joined an artist talk online with Yusuke Koishi and Miki Koishi of KLEINSTEIN. Kohei Kuwada moderated, with interpretation by Hui Quan.

A work in scent
The exhibition also introduced “ELEMENT 21 ‘32 UMEGAE’,” an incense work developed from the chapter and selected from scents by Shoyeido.
