“Biéde In Motion” considers the work beyond the frame of a fashion presentation, as performance where dance and music meet classical Japanese symbols.
McInnes attends to the conception by KLEINSTEIN and to BIÉDE's clothing and objects. As Utashiro moves through the space with a bag, mirror, book, score and flowers, the review observes the contemporary body overlapping with memories of Japanese culture.
Umegae in a contemporary body
The work began with Umegae, chapter 32 of Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji. Hana Yamamoto's flute led into Utashiro's performance, with narration by Yusuke Narita and music by Yongsi and Lyo Taniguchi, alongside BIÉDE clothing, bags and incense.
