BIÉDE COLLECTION 01 — In Collaboration with Quentin Shih

For its first collection in 2020, BIÉDE collaborated with Beijing-based Chinese artist, photographer and film director Quentin Shih.

COLLECTION 01 began with unsettled boundaries

BIÉDE's creative team is multinational and does not disclose its members' nationalities, genders or ages. Beginning with the genderless and the borderless, COLLECTION 01 reconsidered belonging and not belonging, and what a contemporary uniform might be.

Working with Quentin Shih

Quentin Shih is a Chinese artist, photographer and film director based in Beijing. Alongside his photographic and film work, he has taken part in art projects with brands including Dior and Louis Vuitton.

For this collaboration, Shih made 19 images in a Chinese apartment and by the sea, working from BIÉDE's story. Light, colour and composition bring forward a place between East and West, dream and reality: somewhere and nowhere.

The exhibition at STEIN BOX, Minamiaoyama

“BIÉDE COLLECTION 01 IN COLLABORATION WITH Quentin Shih” was held from September 12 to 18, 2020, at STEIN BOX B1F in Minamiaoyama. Eight of the 19 photographs were shown with the COLLECTION 01 bags. According to BIÉDE's announcement at the time, it was the first exhibition of Shih's work in Japan.

The presentation was open to the public for a set period, moving beyond a fashion exhibition limited to buyers and press. The work and products could be encountered in person rather than only as images online.
